When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid. Thank you.

It’s a very complex relationship, I think, and a lot more complex than what is told through the series, which then came down to a lot of fine tuning by myself and Faye Marsay, the actress who plays Anne, Richard’s wife. I think it was very natural and it was very true and very heartfelt. I think that they did love one another. What I do believe is as the worlds around them were changing, and the politics were going up and down, I think Anne’s persistence in trying to do the bad things, which were against his moral beliefs, kind of dampened the quality of tenderness within their relationship and therefore I think he found himself quite alone in a very vulnerable way, which then created a little bit more space between them. So I think they both just lost their way.

“I always get asked, ‘Where do you get your confidence?’ I think people are well meaning, but it’s pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, ‘You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You’re not skinny, you’re not white, you’re a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you’re worth anything?’”

How ironic that between all they people that I have met this year, you’re the one that got my attention. And you’re not even the funniest one. Or the cutest one. Or even the one I would have like at another point in my life.

But I got stuck with you in my head.

And you’re not getting out of there easily.

How ironic that between all the guys that surround me you are the one I like. You are the one I miss when you’re away. Or the one I think about talking to when I’m not having the best day.

    Really, how ironic.

Because when I think about someone that I don’t believe will ever look at me as something more than a friend, you’re also the first person in my mind.

Because you don’t see me that way. And you never wil, right?

    How ironic. Truly.

That I can imagine any other guy liking me. Except you.
